How Seegman scaled cross-border notarisations using notarity

Seegman, a law firm with offices in Madrid and Lisbon advising international clients, has completed 158 notarised appointments with notarity, with 17 lawyers across the firm now using the platform.

No single process to fall back on

Seegman’s clients rarely sit in one place. The firm regularly represents clients spread across different countries, from Perú and Ecuador to México, Argentina, Italy, and the United States, all of whom need documents notarised for use in Spain.

Before notarity, granting a power of attorney meant handling the process in-house, case by case. Seegman would coordinate with a local notary or the relevant consulate in whatever country the client happened to be in. Each client’s circumstances called for their own setup, since requirements and local availability varied from one jurisdiction to the next. There was no single, repeatable process to fall back on.

notarity has simplified a lot of things for us. For me, though, the biggest value lies in handling urgent powers of attorney with international signatories quickly. A traditionally complex process has become fast and highly efficient.

How one case spread across the firm

Seegman attended one of notarity’s webinars on digital notarisation and reached out the same day, having identified a specific use case they wanted to try: notarising a power of attorney remotely for a client.

Once the immigration side had a working example, they brought it to Seegman’s corporate lawyers, who took the process further and made it part of how they handle client documentation across the board. A live video call training session followed, and individual accounts were rolled out to colleagues one by one in the weeks after. That single account has since grown to 17 active users across the firm.

Seegman was one of notarity’s earliest law firm customers in Spain, and they’ve stayed one of the most loyal ever since.

What Seegman uses notarity for today

Powers of attorney remain the core use case at Seegman, spanning litigation, administrative appeals, corporate matters, and joint POAs. Beyond that, the firm relies on notarity for passport witnessing and legalisation tied to NIE applications, as well as certification of facts.

Today, the platform is used across several of Seegman’s practice areas and functions, including the corporate, tax, administrative and international mobility teams. Documents notarised through Seegman have been prepared for use in five destination countries, including Spain, Guatemala, Portugal, Barbados, and Hong Kong, in line with each country’s formal requirements.

For Seegman’s lawyers, the biggest gain is time: instead of coordinating a local notary or consulate case by case, every appointment now follows the same process, wherever the client is. Based on 113 appointments in the 12 months to September 2026, notarity’s opportunity cost calculator estimates that this saves Seegman 243–379 hours of working time a year.
