Changing your company address: how it works online
Published · Updated

Your company has already been successfully founded and registered in the company register (Firmenbuch). Now you want to change your business’s company address. Depending on the case, there are some rules you need to observe. In this article, we explain how you can do this quickly and easily online.
The big difference: within or outside the municipality
If the company stays in the same municipality and only the company address changes, the basic principle is the same, whether it is an OG, a GmbH or an AG.
- Partnerships (e.U., OG or KG): The personally liable partners must make this change in the company register themselves. Their personal signature is required.
- Corporations (GmbH or AG): The managing directors or board members must register the change of address in the company register personally. This requires a handwritten signature, although representation is also permitted.
In both cases, this can be done using the online form “Company register – simplified registration of changes (→ BMJ)”. A notarised signature is not necessary in this case.
If the registered office moves outside the municipality, the articles of association must be updated or rewritten.
-
Partnerships: The change of registered office and address must be signed by all partners and reported to the company register. The partners’ signatures must be certified by a notary or a court.
-
Corporations: The relocation of the registered office and the change of address must be resolved at the general meeting (GmbH) or shareholders’ meeting (AG). In this case, the amendment to the articles of association must be recorded by a notary as a notarial deed. In a further step, the signatures of the shareholders must be notarised, as the articles of association are being changed.
Registered sole traders (e.U.) are also obliged to report these changes to the company register. Here, too, a distinction is made as to whether the move takes place within or outside the municipality. Within the municipality, the change can also be made by a representative. Outside the municipality, it must be signed personally by the sole trader, and this signature must be certified by a notary or a court (Section 30 UGB).
Changing your company address online with notarity
With notarity, you can have the signatures needed to change your company address notarised quickly and flexibly. Partner notaries on the notarity platform will be happy to help.
The signatures are notarised online via video chat, so you do not need to visit a notary in person.
