What heirs abroad can sign online

An inheritance in Spain is completed with a deed before a Spanish notary (escritura de aceptación y adjudicación de herencia). Heirs who live abroad do not have to travel for it.

Before you book

  • A valid identity document

For the identity verification before the appointment.

  • The document from your lawyer

The declaration or power of attorney your lawyer or the Spanish notary drafted, as a PDF.

  • Apostille and hard copy

Add both when you book. The inheritance ends up in the Land Registry, which needs the paper original.

How it works

Your inheritance documents in four steps

  1. Book with Spain as the destination

Book a signature notarisation, upload the document and add the apostille and the hard copy.

  2. Verify your identity

Online, before the appointment, with a valid identity document.

  3. Sign by video call

A partner notary identifies you, goes through the document with you and notarises your signature.

  4. The paper original goes to Spain

The notarised document is in your account straight after the appointment, and the hard copy is couriered to your lawyer or to you.

Frequently asked questions

To the FAQ

Can I make a will online?

No. Wills cannot be made remotely. Declarations about an inheritance that has already happened, such as accepting or waiving it, can.

Do I need the hard copy?

Yes. The deed of inheritance is registered in the Land Registry, which accepts only the paper original from abroad. Add the hard copy when you book.

Should I sign the declaration myself or give a power of attorney?

Either works. Ask your lawyer in Spain which one they need: with a power of attorney, they can sign the deed for you.

Several heirs live in different countries. Can they all sign?

Yes. Each heir signs from wherever they are, in the same appointment or in separate ones.
