NIF for Spain
Your company's NIF power of attorney, notarised online
A foreign company needs a Spanish tax number (NIF) to buy property, open an account or invest in Spain. Partner notaries on notarity notarise the director's power of attorney and the company documents your lawyer files.
What the NIF is and where notarity comes in
The NIF is the tax identification number the Spanish tax agency (AEAT) gives a company. Your lawyer or gestoría applies for it; notarity does not. What they need from you is a notarised power of attorney and proof that the company exists and who represents it.
Before you book
The director's ID
A valid identity document for the director who signs. Nothing else if the company is in a public register.
Company not in a public register?
Then upload a certificate of good standing or incumbency, or a board resolution that shows the signatory's authority.
One combined PDF
Upload documents that belong together, such as the power of attorney and the company certificate, as one PDF.

Book with Spain as the destination
Book a signature notarisation with the proof of representation for the power of attorney, and certified copies for the company documents. Add the apostille to each.
Upload the documents
The power of attorney your lawyer drafted, the company documents, and any evidence of the director's authority.
The director signs by video call
After the identity verification, the director signs in the video appointment and shows the originals of the documents to be certified.
Send them to your lawyer
Download the notarised documents with the apostille from your account and pass them on. Add a hard copy when you book if your lawyer wants the paper original.
Frequently asked questions
Does notarity apply for the NIF?
No. Your lawyer or gestoría applies to the Spanish tax agency. Partner notaries on notarity notarise the power of attorney and certify the company documents they need for it.
Do I need a hard copy?
Usually not: the Spanish tax agency accepts the digital originals. Some lawyers ask for the paper original anyway, so check with yours before you book.
Does the power of attorney need a sworn translation?
Not if it is drafted in Spanish or in two languages including Spanish: the notarial certificate and the apostille are already in Spanish. Company documents in English usually still need a sworn translation.
Our director was appointed recently and is not in the register yet. What now?
Upload the board resolution or register extract that shows the appointment, so the partner notary can confirm the director's authority from it.
Our company is not in a public register. Can we still do this?
Yes, for example a company from Delaware, New York or Panama. Upload a certificate of good standing or incumbency, or a board resolution that shows who may sign for the company.
Several of our partners need documents for Spain. Can they sign separately?
Yes. Each signatory joins from wherever they are. In the company dashboard you can prepare the case once and send each signatory a link to pick a slot.
