What the NIE is and where notarity comes in

The NIE is the foreigner identification number needed for most legal and financial matters in Spain. notarity does not apply for the NIE: your NIE service provider does.

Before you book

  • Book through your provider's link

This applies your partner discount and sets up the appointment to your provider's requirements. Without the link you can still book directly, at the standard price.

  • Your documents

Your power of attorney and your original passport. The partner notary checks the passport in the appointment and stamps and signs every page of its copy.

  • Your device

A device with camera and microphone and a stable internet connection.

How it works

Your NIE documents in four steps

The flow is the same for every NIE service provider that works with notarity.

  1. Book via your provider's link

Book through the link your NIE service provider gave you. This applies your partner discount and sets up the appointment correctly.

  2. Upload your documents

Upload your power of attorney and a copy of your passport, either when you book or directly in your appointment.

  3. Verify your identity and join the appointment

Complete the identity verification and join the video appointment. The partner notary knows what your provider needs and prepares the documents to their specifications.

  4. Documents sent to your provider

Once your appointment is complete, your notarised documents are forwarded directly to your NIE service provider. You don't need to do anything else.

Frequently asked questions

To the FAQ

How do I get my NIE power of attorney notarised via notarity?

Book through the link your NIE service provider gave you. This applies your partner discount and sets up the appointment correctly. Upload your power of attorney and a copy of your passport, complete the identity verification and join the appointment. The partner notary knows what your provider needs and prepares the documents to their specifications.

Will my documents be sent to my NIE provider automatically?

Yes. Once your appointment is complete, your notarised documents are forwarded directly to your NIE service provider. You don't need to do anything else.

I booked without my NIE provider's link. Can I still get the discount?

The discounted price only applies when you book through your provider's link. If you booked directly, contact us via live chat before your appointment with your name, email address and your provider's link, and our support team will see what we can do.

My NIE provider mentioned a better price than the notarity website. Why the difference?

The discounted price is only available when you book through your provider's partner link. If you booked directly on notarity without that link, the standard price applies. Contact us via live chat before your appointment and we'll see what we can do.

My NIE provider asked for a passport copy. What do I need to do?

Upload a copy of your passport when you book and have the original at hand in the appointment. The partner notary checks it and stamps and signs every page of the copy, which is what the police station looks at.

Does my NIE power of attorney need to be in a specific language?

The partner notary will tell you during the appointment if anything needs adjusting. If you're unsure beforehand, contact us with the details of your NIE service provider.
